Tommy's War:
July. 1914

Stop the War!

Could what was later known as the First World War really have been stopped?

The Great War, as it was called at the time, not only resulted in millions of deaths, but had a malign influence on the history of the Twentieth Century. It was the direct cause of the even more bloody Second World War, whose effects are still being felt today.

Tommy’s War: July 1914 is an account of an endeavour to stop the war, so altering the whole of human history for the better.

Was WWI, the event that set the 20c on  its course to be "The Century of Wars,"

Or could it have been stopped by an intervention into an historical event?

No, the crucial event didn't take place in Sarajevo, Bosnia on 28th June, 1914, but in Paris just over a month later.

What unfolded over the month of July, 1914 is told here. Click the links below to find out more about it. The last is about historical and other factors which shaped and are still shaping our fates. An eclectic selection of war poetry  is included.

There are some additions to this section of the site that may be of interest to those who want to know about the people in the book (like Charlie Chaplin who had a generally unknown connection with the area) and those who know Greenford, nowadays in the London Borough of Ealing.
