I Am Betrothed
I am betrothed - still,
lest you should cast me
from your will -
I shall wait - forever
within these garden walls.
Through days
and nights
in this dress that I have worn
since that summer, when we met
and you told me
that you knew
you had always known
that I was the one.
When we lay beneath
the silent tree
and Orpheus inspired the
air with love.
I am betrothed - still,
yet my heart is shaded.
The hours of pain
render my body -
weak.
As I watch the seasons pass;
the flowers -
wither.
And lay in the cold white snow -
as frozen as my soul.
I am betrothed - still,
lest you should cast me
from your will
I shall wait - forever
within these garden walls.
In the hope that one day
you shall return.
